Certainly one of the quietest fountains that I have ever carved, Pagoda Bowl serves to break the total silence of a quiet room with her musical tinkling and trickling acting to calm and entertain the attentive listener.

So delicate are the various waves and ripples descending vertically down the five ‘bowls’ that her rhythm and patter glides through a subtle range of moods and emotions. One minute she’s fine and happy to run a merry if relaxed tune. The next she’s on the warpath for seeming no apparent reason. Once investigated however the reason soon becomes apparent. Perhaps she needs to be gently swept with a clean brush to freshen her surfaces and clean her up; thirty seconds is all she needs to get her back to her best. Or it may be that a thunderstorm is brewing, for even a change in air pressure can get her going, plinking, plunking, plopping and plonking with all the gusto of a waterfall.

Powered by a single miniature pump located behind Pagoda Bowl’s tower, the water is self-contained within her bowl, a feature that makes her unique among all of my bowls to date (02 06 19), a feature that makes this sculpture very convenient to own indeed. Simply remove the water and carry her from one place to the next with relative ease. Just remember to hold her tightly to your body as you walk, as you would with a small child or baby. Watch that tower mind you – you don’t want to knock  or bump it. Oh no no no. Be careful and everything will be fine.

I can see Pagoda Bowl being a great addition to a waiting room / entrance way situation. Or perhaps a study or library. I would include a secluded balcony or patio but a little more maintenance, care and attention is required once this rather delicate fountain is placed outside, or even exposed to the fresh air.  Ideally a perfectly clean and clear location is preferable, but Pagoda Bowl will work fine outdoors. Alas her tinkling soundtrack will be drowned out. But in return you will get to enjoy the sunlight  flashing and glinting off her diamond-like splashes, so it’s a toss up I suppose. I wouldn’t keep moving her round and round for no reason, but she’ll easily comply with say a twice a year seasonal move, and so that’s something to consider.

As with all of my limestone sculpture Pagoda Bowl cannot be shipped. Therefore all sales must be transact right here at The KMJ Cooney Studio Gallery, right across from Aspen Airport and fronting Highway 82. Hope to see you soon.
