Occasionally, and I mean occasionally, I sell a sculpture quite before I have ever really got to know it, and such was the case with Birdseye. No sooner had I carved it then it was out of the door and on with its new life. Magellan, another of my hand carved marble bowls, was carved around this same time, and similarly whisked away almost immediately upon completion. Not that I’m complaining – quite obviously not ! I carve my sculpture for sale upon the free market. But one downside to such swift sales are the lack of photographic evidence. In Birdseye’s case I can claim just three photographs in my possession, but from what they disclose I recall this being such a lovely bowl to carve that it practically sculpted itself. Very similar in texture and hue to that of Constellation, Birdseye immediately distinguished itself by revealing that one huge, perfectly round, eye… staring back from within it’s prominent place within the bowl.
