COLLECTION SERIES MARBLE SCULPTURE

Carved by MARTIN COONEY

Guin and Son / The Maiden Collection / Colorado Yule Marble

Guin / 14 x 13.5 x 15.5″ / 27.6 lbs / SN120404 / Sold

Guin, and Son of a Guin, were sold together as Guin and Son

By the time Guin came along during The Maiden Collection’s carving stage I had completed the three-part ‘wave study’ of The Demure One, Port and Starboard, and I was now keen on exploiting the ‘liquid’ movement that I had discovered deep within the slab.

The result is this my first Guin; part seabird, part penguin, and a solitary sculpture until Son of a Guin came along, now it’s impossible to think of them apart.  In fact, if they had not have been placed in close proximity in preparation for a photo shoot they might never have been recognized for what they are: chips off the old block.  Please keep in mind too that these were cleft apart with just one swift blow of my pitching tool, and therefore I cannot bear to think of them apart; they would no doubt spend eternity searching for one another.
