Every now and again I like to carve a piece of stone entirely using hand tools that would have been instantly recognizable to every stone carver ever to have preceded me.  And that means using hammer and chisel as it has been routinely ‘roughed out’ for centuries. For as you may well imagine, pounding away at a block of solid stone for hours on end – soft as Kansas Creme is, it still takes some removing – and by the end of each day everything from the neck down to the hips will get a good, thorough and prolonged workout, that’s for sure. Conveniently the weather proved just perfect throughout Solar Frog’s carving and therefore I can honestly say that sculpting him was entirely just a whole lot of fun.

Of Course, as with all of my solar fountains the real pleasure comes in watching them react and interplay with the light – for it doesn’t take very much at all to get their little black solar panel up and working. Light cloudy skies have them spitting away in a comic manner that you will just have to witness one day to fully appreciate. But once the sun does shine in its full brilliance you wont believe the jet stream of cool clear water that they pour out. Real attention grabbers they are and true show stealers of the summer garden.
