Hot on the heels of ‘San Rocchino’, the ‘elegant pool’ theme was fated to re-emerge, and so it proved.  Carved from a block that had suggested to me a string instrument of some sort that I had at one point conceived of the idea of a long ski run concept of a bowl,  but the temptation to carve a long, luxurious hand carved marble pool proved just too, too irresistible.

And so, the first sign that I was onto something was the emergence of the parallel tramlines of the fret board, from which moment onward I found myself working toward the concept of a swimming pool themed, Curvilinear marble, lute-shaped, stringed instrument. This carving always draws a crowd and almost begs to be caressed, just like you would a beautiful guitar or lute. But with No Strings Attached, it is the soft, luxurious, smoother than smooth honed surface of the world’s fines white marble that will greet your fingertips and reaward your senses.

It’s a mighty fine hand carved marble bowl, that’s for sure, and one of the most original and interesting sculptures it has ever been my privelege to carve. It is also very, very versitile, with a great many staging modes that include the full gamut of fruit, vege and mounds of ice for seafood displays. Flood it with water and let a set of floating candles illuminate the room, or fill the bowl with whatever springs to mind – it’s up to you. The hand finished surface is impervious to all but the most scurrilous stains. Just wipe it clean; avoid acids and vinegars, sauces (obviously), and it will be ready to spring to life whenever you wish. Oh, and a bottle of fine Champagne, even a magnum, will look entirely spendid sitting atop and large mound of crushed or cubed ice – and what an impression it will make on your guests.
