Uncle Bud’s Hut Trip
Part 4, Nature Pops a Parting Light Show
Rogue Carver on the Loose in America
For our third and final night at the 10th Mountain Division hut near Leadville, CO we were treated to a parting light show that served as a fitting finale to a memorable trip.
On our return from Hagerman Pass we discovered Uncle Bud’s Hut enveloped in a magical mood. The storm clouds that Joseph and I had witnessed as they started to grow on the back of Mt Massive were now massive enough themselves to engulf the entire valley, and when Colorado Rocky Mountain thunder clouds play rough they tend to pull no punches.
By noon the next morning we were homeward bound on the 90 minute journey that would take us back to Woody Creek and the Continental Divide for the sixth and final time of our lovely little 3-day Mountain Sojourn.
By way of a final ‘cherry on the cake’ it just so happened that the staff at the cozy little Twin Lakes Bar professed themselves avid soccer fans and so while Joseph tucked into his mountainous and by all accounts delicious B.L.T. we were treated to front row seats as the final 30 minutes of the Arsenal v Spurs English Premier League match played its course.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed this 4-part glimpse into our Rocky Mountain Hut Trip. Next week I will be back in my Studio/Workshop in earnest as I set about completing my current Autumn of 14 Collection of Colorado Yule Marble Sculpture, “Jewelry for the Home” .
Bye for now,
