With this, the penultimate Maiden Collection carving, I decided to complete the trilogy I had begun with Wimbledon 1973, and The Belle, pictured below

Encouraged by the quality and uniformity of the block I had to work with, combined with a clear vision of exactly what I wanted to carve, Venus de Mermaid just seemed to appear from out of the stone, as if by magic. Yes she’s somewhat on the petite side of the Collection Series Marble Sculptures, but her pettiness simply adds to her charm, in my opinion.
